GIB Quiet Zone®

Protect your peace and privacy in bedrooms, media rooms and offices.

Our lifestyles and living habits have undergone incredible change over the past decade and have contributed to unwanted noise. Homes are being built closer together, we have more appliances, more people working from home, more traffic and multiple entertainment devices.

The homes we are building today need to be designed differently to reflect these changes and especially to cope with the impact unwanted noise can have on the health and well being of our families.

Rooms where noise is an issue should be designated as GIB Quiet Zones® where the primary wall lining use is GIB Noiseline®.

How Noise Control Works

A GIB Quiet Zone® is a system of products and building practices that work together to reduce (not eliminate) noise. GIB Quiet Zones® work by trying to stop sound waves or vibrations from passing through the wall, ceiling, window or door. This is acheived by:

  • Increasing the sound blocking ability of the walls, ceilings, windows and doors by increasing their density e.g. two layers of GIB Noiseline® on walls, acoustic insulation, solid core doors and acoustic glass.
  • Blocking gaps where noise can pass through e.g. around doors, windows and wall perimetres with GIB Soundseal® acoustic sealant and door seals on doors.
  • Isolating different parts of the house structure from each other to cut off the path that sound vibrations can travel through e.g. GIB Quiet Clip for use on ceilings

Imagine a room being treated for noise is filled with water: where would the water leak from the room? Noise will leak out of a room in much the same way i.e. through the walls, doors, ceilings, and windows. When installing a GIB Quiet Zone®, all of these factors need to be addressed and treated appropriately for a successful result.

GIB Noiseline® is the primary plasterboard to be used in GIB Quiet Zones®. It is a specially developed lining with an extremely dense core that provides superior noise reduction performance compared with GIB® Standard plasterboard.
